Simon, and Jessica Spotswood –on one stage to discuss strong girls in contemporary children’s literature.  Moderated by acclaimed author and publishing industry advocate Shannon Hale, join in for a passionate, not-to-be-missed conversation about the literary heroes who have inspired them, their own journeys as writers, crushing gender stereotypes one page at a time— and why all kids and teens, regardless of gender, deserve kickass female protagonists! 

Kate DiCamillo, two-time Newbery Medalist and former National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, revisits the world of Raymie Nightingale in Louisiana’s Way Home. Shannon Hale is the co-author of the New York Times best-selling Princess in Blackseries with The Princess in Black and the Science Fair Scare out in the fall. Meg Medina, the Pura Belpré award winning author of Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass, turns to a middle grade audience with Merci Suárez Changes Gears. Coretta Scott King John Steptoe New Talent Author Award winner T. R. Simon returns to the hometown of celebrated African American author Zora Neale Hurston in Zora and Me: The Cursed Ground. Jessica Spotswood is the editor of two anthologies starring a cast of daring heroines: A Tyranny of Petticoats: 15 Stories of Belles, Bank Robbers & Other Badass Girls and The Radical Element: 12 Stories of Daredevils, Debutantes & Other Dauntless Girls.
